Yoga and Addiction recovery

We enter into an occasion in our lives where we are healing from the consequences of an addiction to drugs or alcohol, when we enter into recovery. Early recovery is where we learn to recover and learn to establish a new and healthy life style which will support recovery through the rest of our lives. Recovery from addiction is really a lifelong and life-changing process. Restoration is not the conclusion line, it is a journey. In early recovery, a person is taught a lot of things to assist them on their path to recovery. Some of the tools presented are important, and some are optional.

A great deal of people do not realize that relapse is a significant threat in early recovery. Relapse is a slide in sobriety or clean time after an intentional amount of abstinence from drugs and/or alcohol. In recovery, we have to understand to cope with feelings and stress which could cause us to wish to drink or use drugs again. One of the simplest techniques that is encouraged to ease stress and perhaps not give into any urges that prompt relapse is relaxation.

We are taught that in addiction recovery, we have to discover to relieve stress and feel the need to self-medicate and to calm our minds on an everyday basis as to not become overwhelmed or to relieve stress with other substances. Meditation allows us to clear our minds and to rest in a healthy and simple way, the one that has been found to be valuable not only to spirits and psyche, but in addition to our feelings.
